We live in the temperate forest biome. There are both abiotic and biotic characteristics in this biome. The abiotic characteristics are all of the non-living organisms such as dirt, rocks, water, metals, and manufactured items. The biotic characteristics are all of the living oraganisms such as plants and animals. All of these characteristics reflect my surroundings because they are all involved in our everyday lives.

I think that the use of plants and plant products has actually decreased in the last century. We are coming up with more technology and that technology is mostly electronic, which does not contain plants. There are new medicines and technology that contain plants, but I think that the use of plants and plant products has decreased more than increased in the last century. I think that in the next century that the usage of plants and plant products will decrease more. There will be more and more electronic technology invented.

Most scientists and researchers are for embryonic stem cell research. Most scientists and researchers think that embryonic stem cells possibly hold cures for spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, Parkinson’s diease, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease, hundreds of rare immune system, genetic disorders, and much more. Scientists see value in the use of embryonic stem cell research to understand human development and the growth and treatment of dieases.

Some staunch pro-lifers and most pro-life organizations are against embryonic stem cell reasearch because the blastocyst is destructed, which is a laboratory fertilized human egg, to be the murder of human life. They believe that life begins at conception, and that destruction of this pre-born life is morally unacceptable. They believe that it is immoral to destroy a human embryo, even though it could save or reduce suffering in existing human life.

I would not like to be cloned. I think that having a clone would be really stressful. Your clone might try to do things that you do not approve of and you might not any have control over what they do. People might also think that your clone is you and your clone might do things that you would not. I also would not want to be cloned because I like being the only me. There is no one else like me and I wouldn’t want there to be.

1. Mammalian genomes are larger because they have a more complex chromatin. Chromatin is a complex mixture of DNA and proteins that make up proteins. Prokaryotic genomes usually have a circular structure. Mammalian genomes also have a large amount of DNA and proteins. Where as, prokaryotic genomes have a smaller amount of proteins and a less elaborate structure.

The living qualities that viruses have are that they are durable, they are composed of complex molecules, they contain left handed amino acids, and that they can regulate themselves and their host. The lifeless qualities of viruses are that they have no cells, they have no protoplasm, they do not reproduce themselves, and they have no metabolism.

DNA is the genetic makeup of any living organism. Every living organism’s DNA is different. It is what makes everyone and everything different. In forensic science, to solve a case, they have to use the evidence that is provided. They have to take the evidence and get it’s DNA. Then they must try to match it up with any suspects DNA. Forensic scientists have to know all about DNA to determine the DNA of the evidence and the suspects. They also have to know all about it’s structure so that they can distinguish the different characteristics of each organism’s DNA. This can solve or not solve any forensics case.

1. DNA replication differs in prokaryotic cells and eukaryotic cells. In prokaryotic cells there is no nucleus found inside of the cells. This causes the DNA to remain attached because segregation does not occur. The processes of protein production still take place in prokaryotic cells, but they are very quick.

Eukaryotic cells contain a nucleus, so the processes of protein production take longer. This is because the processes have to travel around the nucleus, which makes it more involved.

2. DNA and RNA have a few differences along with a few similarities. DNA has a double helix structure, where as RNA has a single helix structure. However, both of these are spiral and look like a spiral ladder. Nitrogen bases are found in both DNA and RNA. DNA and RNA are both made of nucleic acid and nucleotides. Nucleotides are sugar, phosphate, and one nitrogen base. DNA has deoxyribose sugar and RNA has ribose. RNA has no thymine, unlike DNA, instead it has uracil.

1. In 1928, Fredrick Griffith did experiments to see if DNA existed within cells. In the 1940′s, McCarty and MacLead knew that DNA existed, but mostly thought that it was protein in genetic material. In 1952, Hershey and Chase discovered that DNA was in a bacteriophage in prokaryotic cells. In the 1950′s, Chargaff found that DNA was also in eukaryotic cells. Linus Pauling, James Watson, Frances Crick, Maurice Wilkins, and Roseline Franklin all worked on DNA. Roseline Franklin worked on x-ray crystallography. In 1953, with all of their information from these other scientists, Watson and Crick provided a 3-D structure of DNA.

2. DNA contains two strands made up of deoxyribose sugar and phosphate. Between these two strands are nitrogen bases. These nitrogen bases are thymine, adenine, guanine, and cytosine. Nitrogen bases can only pair up in a specific order, thymine pairs up with adenine and guanine pairs up with cytosine. Hydrogen bonds hold the two nitrogen bases together in the middle of the two strands. There are 10 layers of nitrogen bases. DNA has a double helix stucture.

In order to discover such a thing as the double helix, Watson and Crick had to be able to have cooperation. Cooperation plays a major role in science. Scientists have to take their time and make sure that everything is done right so that no mistakes are made. All discoveries are made by the cooperation of scientists. Competition probably helped Watson and Crick give them their drive that they needed to discover the double helix. I’m sure that competition also plays a big role in science. If you are the first to discover something, then you will be well known or even become famous. Most people in some way want to be famous. However, competition could either slow a scientist down or accelerate their progress. All scientists have to be careful about competition because if they are too competitve and don’t take their time to do things then they can mess up all of their progress. Competition can also help scientists progress because they are constantly competing with other scientists for fame. This can help progress because scientists work and think faster when competing.
